Abbey Church in Romainmôtier

The oldest monastery in Switzerland is in the municipality Romenmote ANVI that on the territory of the Canton of Vaud. According to legend, the monastery church was founded in the 5th century, in 928, it became part of the French abbey of Cluny. Hitherto preserved structure of the monastery, built in the early 11th century. The church is the pulpit, founded in the 8th century. Among the surviving monastic buildings - House abbot in his restored rooms with large fireplaces and beamed ceilings, today hosts parties. Opposite the church stands the clock tower of the 14th century.

Millennial Romenmote ancient monastery choir and frescoes, columns and tombs is a valuable monument of Romanesque architecture, which is recognized as a cultural object of national and regional importance.

Abbey is situated at a distance of about 30 kilometers north-west of Lausanne.
