Augusta Raurica
Skansen Open-Augusta Raurica is the largest archaeological monument in Switzerland. Is an ancient settlement, founded in 44 BC by the Celtic tribe Raurica. Despite his age, excellent facilities have survived. During excavations were found temples, public spaces, houses, taverns and baths, as well as the Roman theater, designed for 10,000 spectators. The most popular of these sites is finding the largest antique silver treasure in the treasure Kayzeraugsta. These and many other findings can be seen in the Roman Museum, which is located near the amphitheater.
Augusta Raurica, located 20 kilometers east of the city of Basel, near the villages of Augst and Kayzeraugst. From the station, you can use the SBB train lines S1, to get to Kayzeraugst, where a 15 minute walk to the main attractions. Also bus line 81 from Basel-Aeschenplatz to stop Augst.
