Great Saint Bernard Hospice

Pass through the Great St. Bernard Pass in the Alps since ancient times was a road that connected Italy to Central Europe. The road was long and exhausting, not every traveler managed to overcome it.
In 1050 St. Bernard of Menton founded a monastery on the pass, which was opened in a mountain cabin. Anyone could come here for food and shelter. Convent and orphanage there today.
Saint Bernard Pass is home to the eponymous dog breeds. It was here in the 13th century were brought these amazingly intelligent animals, which the monks were trained to look for people in avalanches.
The monastery is a museum that tells the history of the pass and the life of monks from ancient eras.
