Lake Maggiore
Lake Maggiore is located on the border between Switzerland and Italy. The unique microclimate has been formed in this area. You may nice almost year-round sunshine there. The tourist season lasts from May to October; the water temperature in summer is +22 – +28 °C. The lake is surrounded by the Alps; Mount Mottarone is located right in front of the majestic mountain lake.
In the northern part of the lake, you can see prestigious Swiss resorts of Locarno and Ascona. Travellers, who rest at these places, are offered to take exciting boat trips directly to the foot of the Alpine peaks. In Locarno, you can see the old church of Madonna del Sasso, or visit Visconteo Castle built in the 12th century. In the heart of the city, you can visit an amazing shopping district Piazza Grande. In Ascona, numerous boutiques, first-class hotels and expensive restaurants can be found.
You can reach Lake Maggiore from Geneva or Zurich by train. Scheduled buses from many cities of the country run to this area too.
