Bear Park

Bear pit in Bern is a large open one aviary, where bears live. This place is deservedly considered one of the most interesting sights. Cage area is about 6000 square meters, and its territory is as close to the natural conditions in which live bears. 

History bear pit began in the distant Middle Ages. According to ancient legend, the Duke Berthold decided to name the city after the first animal he killed while hunting in the local woods. And it so happened that was the first to bear. Since it is assumed that it is the animal gave the city its name. Bear and to this day is a symbol of Bern.
