This small but picturesque town was almost completely destroyed in a fire in 1794. Later, the city was rebuilt on a particular project and a clear pattern. A distinctive feature of the city are broad parallel avenues and streets are extremely long. It La Chaux-de-Fonds is considered a major center of the world famous Swiss watch industry.
This city has been declared a World Heritage Site. It is a distinctive example of the unusual nature and architecture with advanced industrial enterprises. Its main attraction is the International Watchmaking Museum , which contains exhibits testifying to the history of watchmaking.
